Young Algaeneers Symposium 2018 (Wed 15 PM – Fri 18 PM)
YAS2018, the fourth edition of the symposium designed and organised by young scientists for young scientists, and addresses all aspects of algal research and technology (microbiome, processing, application, cultivation and scale-up). Masters and PhD students, as well as early-stage Post-Docs are encouraged to participate to YAS2018 and contribute to the development of a growing industry.
Sustaining the growth of seaweed aquaculture worldwide: GlobalSeaweedSTAR (Thu 17 AM-PM)
This session will introduce the work performed as part of the GCRF-funded GlobalSeaweed* initiative to sustain the development of seaweed aquaculture worldwide. Topics to be covered include disease and pest detection, biosecurity, farm management and legislation, breeding and socio-economic resilience. A presentation will be made of the GCRF GlobalSeaweedSTAR Research and Travel Fund - £900k to extend with other developing partners involved in seaweed-related projects.
Towards the characterisation and sustainable cultivation of European seaweeds (GENIALG, Fri 18 AM-PM)
The Horizon 2020 Blue Growth project GENIALG is the first industry-driven project bringing together pioneering companies in large-scale integrated European biorefineries and experts in seaweed cultivation, genetics and metabolomics to boost the seaweed industry. The event will be a mix of presentations and discussions, with a focus on novel breeding techniques and biosecurity, including policy-making. A detailed schedule will be posted soon.
